KUWAIT: 26 January 2005
A Kuwaiti member of Al-Takfir Wa Al-Hijra (Excommunication and Exile), an Islamist terrorist gang considered more radical than Al Qaeda, returns home to his family in Kuwait after having gone on the Hajj. His 13 year old daughter greets him joyfully at the door. Suddenly, irrationally convinced she has had sex while he was gone he forces her to "say her shahada," or make her peace with Allah. She thinks he's playing and laughs at him. He ties her up with rope. She is confused. Her dad is acting weird. Then as his four other children watch, he cuts her throat with a dull knife. As she bleeds, she screams and cries and begs for him to save her. He leaves the room to fetch a sharp knife, then comes back and cuts her throat again with the razor sharp blade. The other children run out of the house, screaming for help. They meet an uncle. He goes inside, takes the girl's body to the hospital. The father lingers in the house. The police come. He asks if she's dead yet. They say "yes." He tells them he wishes he would have had sufficient time to kill the other children. The autopsy reveals she is a virgin.
Whose honor was he protecting, exactly?
